Indoor humidity can be a major problem on your respiratory system and overall health, but it can also manifest itself in problems inside your home. Sadly, a lot of homeowners either don't notice, don't think it's related to their HVAC, or simply just don't do anything to solve the issue. As a result, homeowners will see the following signs. If you suspect your indoor air is too humid, please give us a call at (423) 463-6228 and we will help you diagnose the issue.

Window Condensation

The first and most obvious sign of high indoor humidity is the buildup of condensation on your windows. This especially happens in the summer when the Chattanooga air is at its hottest. Much like when you heat up a pot of water on the stove, that Tennessee heat will raise the H2O particles and they'll look for an escape, but end of trapped by the window. This is sign is very clear - you need to call Scenic Air to test your indoor air quality.

Plant Mold

This sign is definitely less obvious that the underlying issue is high indoor humidity. For instance, your plants can grow mold if the drainage is poor, the plant is overwatered, or even if there's too much organic material in the soil. However, plant mold should certainly be a cause for concern about your indoor air humidity.

Musty Smell

A musty smell is certainly a cause for concern that there is an underlying indoor humidity issue. It is possible that your musty smell is coming from one bad load of laundry that did not get fully dry or one used shower towel that get wadded up and thrown on the floor. However, if the musty smell is coming from fabrics that you would not expect, it is time to sound the alarm. Do not try to cover up the issue with aerosol deodorizers. You must let a professional diagnose the underlying humidity issue.

Dust Mites

Dust mites are certainly a major sign of indoor humidity issues. Dust mites thrive in humid environments. Rather than calling an exterminator to remove the pests, you must ask yourself why the dust mites have shown up in your home. Consider calling Scenic Air to diagnose the underlying issue of indoor humidity that provided an environment to attract dust mites in the first place.
